Varied response of detoxification enzyme activities against lethal and sublethal exposures of phosphine in Tribolium castaneum populations

چکیده

Resistance to phosphine fumigation in stored insects continues be challenging managing these pests worldwide. The role of detoxification enzymes metabolizing is yet explored fully. dose-response mortality against was assessed this study from six field populations Tribolium castaneum (Herbst) collected across India during 2021–23 at the Division Entomology, ICAR-Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi. Further, strength Glutathione-S-Transferase (GST) and Cytochrome P450 monooxygenase (CYPs) estimated sublethal (LC30) median lethal concentration (LC50). Dose-response probit assay found that LC30 LC50 values ranged 0.018 0.363 0.038 1.277 mg/L, respectively. Our result showed MZ (Mirzapur) KA (Kailashahar) were high least resistant compared susceptible reference LS (lab population). magnitude GST CYPs activities more elevated than populations. enhancement activity eight nine-fold two three-fold concentrations, Correlation analysis revealed a significant positive association between (r=0.94, P<0.01; r=0.98, P<0.001) r=0.97, both findings implied escalated with increased resistance exposure T. castaneum.

Sublethal Exposure to Phosphine Decreases Offspring Production in Strongly Phosphine Resistant Female Red Flour Beetles, Tribolium castaneum (Herbst)

The red flour beetle is a cosmopolitan pest of stored grain and stored grain products. The pest has developed resistance to phosphine, the primary chemical used for its control. The reproductive output of survivors from a phosphine treatment is an important element of resistance development but experimental data are lacking. We exposed mated resistant female beetles to 0.135 mg/L of phosphine f...

Diagnostic Molecular Markers for Phosphine Resistance in U.S. Populations of Tribolium castaneum and Rhyzopertha dominica

Stored product beetles that are resistant to the fumigant pesticide phosphine (hydrogen phosphide) gas have been reported for more than 40 years in many places worldwide. Traditionally, determination of phosphine resistance in stored product beetles is based on a discriminating dose bioassay that can take up to two weeks to evaluate. We developed a diagnostic cleaved amplified polymorphic seque...

Genetic structure of Tribolium castaneum (Coleoptera: Tenebrionidae) populations in mills.

The red flour beetle, Tribolium castaneum (Herbst), is primarily found associated with human structures such as wheat and rice mills. Such structures are predicted to be spatially isolated resource patches with frequent population bottlenecks that should influence their genetic structure. Genetic diversity and differentiation among nine populations of T. castaneum collected from wheat and rice...

Progression of phosphine resistance in susceptible Tribolium castaneum (Herbst) populations under different immigration regimes and selection pressures

Insecticide resistance is an escalating global issue for a wide variety of agriculturally important pests. The genetic basis and biochemical mechanisms of resistance are well characterized in some systems, but little is known about the ecological aspects of insecticide resistance. We therefore designed a laboratory experiment to quantify the progression of phosphine resistance in Tribolium cast...

Efficacy of diatomaceous earth formulations admixed with grain against populations of Tribolium castaneum

The efficacy of diatomaceous earth (DE) to control stored-products Coleoptera on stored grain was examined against several populations of the red flour beetle, Tribolium castaneum (Herbst). Four commercially available DE formulations were tested: INSECTO, Perma-GuardTM, Protect-It and the diatomite used for the production of Dryacide, each at six concentrations (100-1000 ppm). A great variation...
